Author Seeks Valentine; Readers Seek Hiding Place

Hello friends.

Will you be my Valentine?

What if I gave you flowers and then let you spend time beneath my covers?

...Get your mind out of the gutter. I'm talking about book covers, you saucy minx.

In celebration of Valentine's Day, I've been given the green light to reveal not one, but TWO covers for you.

So without further ado, I give to you the cover to the WILDEFIRE paperback, and even more exciting, the cover to Wildefire's sequel, EMBERS & ECHOES.

As you can see, the WILDEFIRE paperback remains mostly unchanged from the hardcover, but it has beautiful (and much larger) new font. And I'm absolutely in love with what Laurent has done with the EMBERS & ECHOES cover. The lonely orchid* maintains the flower theme from the original, while the igneous rock and scalding lava really say, "Hey, this book is about the reincarnation of a Polynesian volcano goddess. Read it or she'll burn you."

*Disclaimer: I am not a flowerologist, so I am only guessing that this is an orchid. For all I know, it could be a tumbleweed or a banana tree or a reclusive hamster rose. What I do know is that it's beautiful and exotic, and if I didn't have a track record of involuntary herbicide with every house plant I've ever owned, I would keep one on my desk.

Now that you've seen the cover, you're probably curious at this point where EMBERS & ECHOES will take Ashline Wilde, so a sneak peek at the flap summary...

~~~~~~
Every flame casts a shadow.
Ashline Wilde is about to discover that when you’re the reincarnation of a Polynesian volcano goddess, “new beginnings” are just a myth.
Leaving the fiery ruins of her sophomore year behind her, Ash travels to the sizzling beaches of Miami, hot on the trail of the little sister she’s only seen in visions. But her happy family reunion isn’t all palm trees and paradise. A cult of evil gods-on-earth, known as the Four Seasons, has kidnapped her sister to use in its terrifying new religion. Soon, the streets of Miami erupt in chaos and violence…and Ash gets caught right in the tropical crossfire
Ash isn’t without help, however. Unexpected romance arrives in the form of Wes, an Aztec god of night with his own vendetta against the Four Seasons. As memories of Ash’s previous life begin to flicker into her dreams, the boundaries between ally and enemy, life and death, and love and hate all bleed together. And when a mysterious trickster from her past reappears to derail her new quest, Ash must choose between the echoes of a once-forgotten yesterday and the embers of an uncertain future.
Because when old flames return from the dead, even a volcano goddess can get burned.
WILDEFIRE comes out in paperback August 21, 2012.
EMBERS & ECHOES hits bookstores August 28, 2012.
  7. Love the new font and the covers. Am so glad you warned us to read the book before Ashline burned us all alive. Not pleasant to have a volcano goddess for an enemy!
    My guess - it may be the elusive, yet tough and determined hamster rose. It's growing in lava. :)
  8. Your new cover is beautiful (even though right as I saw it for the first time BU scored to even up the Beanpot final and I said some really awful swear words, startling my dogs; I'll do my best not to hold it against your cover). What was I saying? Oh yes, really pretty cover. I think I'll ask my husband to get me some hamster roses for Valentine's Day tomorrow.
  19. Congrats on the beautiful new covers! I love the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired font.
    It's a slipper orchid, or lady's slipper orchid. That pouch in the front is used to trap insects.
  21. It's gorgeous! I love it! And good thing too because if this cover wasn't as gorgeous as Wildefire's then I would have made a lot of people unhappy with my whining.
  25. Hi, Karsten!
    My name is Diana Gavrila and I'm from Romania.
    The reason I am disturbing you is for asking you a big request. Since the day I found your site and your books I wanted to talk to you about the possibility of an interview for the readers of my blog (fantasy-link.blogspot.com).
    I am sure they are as curious as I am to find out about you and your work. I would be honored and really happy if you accepted.
    I hope hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time.
    Have a nice weekend.
  26. Hi!
    I love your books and your blog, and I was rereading Wildefire the other day, but I'm kind of confused now. I looked up the God that "Blink"/Colt said he was, and I found out he was a trickster God. Does this mean that Ash was supposed to kill him? Or was she supposed to kill Eve?
