Why You Shouldn't Write Your Novel on an Etch-a-Sketch

Wildefire is Wattpad.com's July Featured Contest, so I filmed this Q&A to go along with it.

"One time I found a dead cardinal at my front doorstep. I like nature. I like dolphins. I like birds. I like rocks." ~Karsten Knight, Age 6

  1. LOL. Also, when I force myself to stare at the screen the same thing happens and I write at my worst. Love the ending pictures. >:P

  3. Watching your vlogs is always a treat.

You were kind of morbid when you were 6.

  4. Nice! I wish I had saved my first book. I wrote it at about the same age, and with about the same amount of writerly & artistic skillz. ;)

  6. I prefer to live on the Wilde side of things, so I will write my novel on an etch-a-sketch and dare someone to shake it!
You do an excellent Velociraptor, btw. Clever girl!

  10. So anytime I’m having a rotten day, a ‘why am I still trying to do this writing thing’ kind of day, I stop by your site. As today was one of those days I came by to read your query letter yet again and was pleasantly surprised by this new video. You keep me going. And just so we’re clear, you would have been an excellent addition to ‘N Sync. =)

  12. I can honestly say that i was "rolling on the floor laughing" your vlogs are great Karsten and i must say that your age 6 self was going places :) I must also add that I loved Wildefire, it's a book that i would read over and over because the story was really clever and it just overall made my bad week great because of all the hilarious sarcastic and snarky comments from Ash and Raja and all of them :D Congrats on a wonderful novel!

  14. (Reposted due to missing important words, lol) I'm new to your blog, but I've wanted to read your novel primarily because I was interested in the Polynesian goddess aspect. Polynesian and Hawaiian mythology are interests of mine, and I'm glad to see someone incorporating them in teen fiction!

  15. I love your take on writing. It's really refreshing considering so many writers break writing down into how-to steps, as if writing is this mechanical process to follow.

Also, I'm really enjoying Wildefire; can't wait to finish it! :)

  17. o.o O.O x0 <-- that is me... Fainting? I could be dying though..
But that is besides the point, what I really wanted to say was that I wrote a story when I was in elementry school about my cat... it got lost when we moved, but it was the year I realized I loved to write since then I have tones of book writen everywhere! Glad to know I am not the only one!
