Like any self-respecting egotistical artist, I’m sometimes privy to delusions of grandeur during my quiet moments. Since I’m a novelist, you might think these fantasies would be literary in nature: signing a three-book deal with Scholastic, my Newbury acceptance speech, autographing books for a long queue of fans who look like they’re about to wet themselves with excitement.
Not so. (Okay, well maybe occasionally). Rather, I have devoted my moments of boredom on the Green Line to imagining the day, years from now, when Peter Jackson or Zack Snyder direct a film adaptation of one of my novels. More specifically, I spend my downtime on the subway scouring my iPod for the songs I’d most like to hear in the background to the movie trailers for these imaginary films. Below I’ve listed the songs that I’ve settled on. Enjoy.
REVENGA by System of a Down
Question: How can you argue with the haunting vocals into the crushing bass line of the bridge? Answer: You can’t.

FLY FROM THE INSIDE by Shinedown
Another badass bridge. Doesn’t it make you want to start a fight? I mean…

DON’T WAIT by Dashboard Confessional
Had to follow up the alternative rock with a more emo choice. In addition to being one of my favorite songs of all time, the bridge would be perfect for a more emotionally driven trailer.

ALREADY GONE by Kelly Clarkson
Every once in a while, Top 40 radio features a song that doesn’t make me want to self-defenestrate. This is one of them.

WELCOME HOME by Coheed & Cambria
This has been my “get pumped, get pissed” warm-up song for weightlifting for quite some time now; the trailer for the recently released 9 proves that this song is epic for movie trailers.
Any part of this song. Any part at all.

Further imaginary self-aggrandizing movie trailer soundtrack choices welcomed.
